Funny, when you listen to rock music, and write on an electric guitar, you tend to write rock songs, which was the case here. I was hoping to perform this on Easter but there was too much other stuff going on at church. I think it’s pretty provocative, and hopefully, will get people thinking. The two key events for Christians are the birth of Christ, and His death, burial and resurrection. Jesus coming and dying for sinners is life’s common thread. It would be hard to wrap my head around life if these key events didn’t take place.
So, Nathaniel and I were struggling with the drums on “Comin’ Home” and finally got a great take (after many). We have Jimmy Geske over to play some bass on it, and he has a little harder time getting it down too, interesting. Anyway, he finishes up on “Comin’ Home” and we decide to record bass, drums, scratch vocal and guitar at the same time in the hopes of getting a good vibe. We play through the song one time to get levels and record a take. Hmm, Jimmy and Nathaniel are pretty excited about the song and Nathaniel hits absolute “0” on the meters. He’s good but a little too close for comfort. Jimmy totally wiped out the meters, so I had to take his levels down a few notches to avoid clipping. We set in, do one more take, and we’re good. Simple as that, 1 time through, super solid recording, fantastic vibe. Interesting how you can lock in on some songs so quickly and others are kinda tough.
NH-drums, JG-bass using the Epiphone direct (amp didn’t work so well on this one and was recording badly so we went straight into the interface), TH-acoustic guitar and lead, Gibson using Boss pedalboard
lyrics
Verse 1
One solitary life, alone upon that road
You gladly bore the shame
You took the scorn, You took the mocking
You did not resist the pain
Pre-Chorus
It looked like a bitter end
But then, You rose again
You rose again
Verse 2
Your bitter death, how can I contain the wonder
How nails can make one whole
And when it all was over
You saved my broken soul
Chorus
You rose again, You rose again
You rose again, You rose again Lord
For tribe, for tongue, for nation
Fulfilled redemption's plan
For ere the whole of creation
You rose again, You rose again
Bridge
The pain I know is nothing
Like the pain You bore for me
When the cross You humbly carried
When You died upon that tree
The earth we know is groaning
It waits on bended knee
It looks to the Savior Sovereign
And wants to be set free
Chorus
You rose again, You rose again
You rose again, You rose again
Tag
You rose again, You rose again
You rose again, You rose again
You rose again
